What is a LOLER
Inspection?
Why is LOLER Testing Important?
LOLER inspections are a legal requirement, and critically important as they help ensure the safety of lifting equipment and mitigate the risks associated with its operation, safeguarding both workers and the surrounding environment. By identifying any defects or issues, regular testing enable timely repairs, maintenance, or replacements, ultimately preventing accidents, injuries, and property damage. Compliance with LOLER regulations also demonstrates a commitment to safety and legal obligations, enhancing organisational reputation and reducing liability.
Who can carry out a LOLER Inspection?
The person conducting the inspection should understand the specific type of equipment being examined, as well as the relevant LOLER regulations and safety standards. In some cases, this may be an in-house inspector who has received appropriate training and certification. Alternatively, organizations can hire external specialists or inspection services that have qualified and certified inspectors capable of conducting the examination. Ensuring that the chosen inspector or inspection service is competent to perform LOLER inspections is important.
